The Bishop Museum of Science & Nature

The Bishop Museum of Science & Nature is a fun place for kids. It is located in Bradenton, FL and has many things to see and do, including a planetarium, animals from long ago, a manatee habitat, Archaic people, ancient artifacts, and a kids’ play area!

The planetarium was my favorite part of the Bishop Museum of Science & Nature. It was very cool! Five shows were scheduled on Saturday.

The lineup varies depending on the day. I was only able to see the last one, “Passport to the Universe,” which was narrated by Tom Hanks. It began with some planets, showing how small they actually are. The planets looked like they were coming out of the screen! The show also to talked about how stars were made, and how scientists use the stars to determine how old the universe is. ***This is where the movie got cool.*** It turns out, that our universe isn’t the only one. There are several millions of universes out there! All those universes are connected to one huge world! But, that one huge world isn’t the only one! There are several other worlds! And, those worlds were a part of one enormous universe! This got me thinking how tiny Earth is! Isn’t that cool? The Bishop Planetarium also had adjustable seats so you get the perfect experience.

Another thing I will talk about is the animals. The animals were awesome. There was even a huge armadillo! There was also a sloth as big as a tree! There was also a scale of a megalodon! It was massive! The display mentioned that the megalodon was bigger than a great white shark.

There were also some alligators. But, they had some really long mouths! It looked like they could eat about 20-30 fish at one time! Also, there was a sculpture of a lion hunting a horse. The background looked real! The animals were even skeletons to make it more fantastic.

The Archaic people were another exhibit at the Bishop Museum of Science & Nature. These groups of people had some neat artifacts like a cool pickaxe and pretty shells. There was also a scroll that you could spin and see a display of an Archiac male throwing his sphere. That is really all they had about the Archiac people.

The play area for kids was not exciting. There was only a cornhole and some foam blocks. It was indoors, so that’s a plus for not wanting to take a break outside in the cold. I waited in there for a short time after walking around the upper and lower levels of the museum.

There will be more about the manatee habitat in my next post. See you later!
