The missing cookies

One night, Jacob’s mother, Susan, was baking cookies. She made 12 cookies. You can have one each night. Susan told Jacob. “Okay.” Jacob replied, as he bit into one of the large, chocolate chip cookies. His dog, Max, walked into the kitchen. He had smelled the aroma of the freshly baked cookies. Max whined. He really wanted a cookie. “Not now Max.” Jacob told him. Jacob finished the cookie and went to bed. The next day, after Jacob got home from school, he went into the kitchen, only to see that the cookies were missing. “Hey mom,” Jacob said. “Do you know where the cookies are?” “No,” she replied. ” Today, I watched a movie while your dad was at work, and I went to grab the cookies, but there were none there!” “Thats strange.” Jacob said. “I wonder who took them.

When Jacobs dad got home, he asked him if he had taken the cookies to work. “I don’t think so.” Mathew told him. “Well, somebody took them.” Jacob said. “And we can’t find them, anywhere!” “Maybe Max took them.” his dad suggested. “But he’s not tall enough to reach the cookie jar.” Jacob said. “Well,” Mathew said. “I guess you guys might have to make some more. Enough talk about those cookies. Let’s watch the game that’s on TV!” Jacob didn’t feel like watching tv. I need to find those cookies. He thought. That night, he heard a strange noise coming from the kitchen. Max, is that you?” Jacob asked, as he walked quietly into the kitchen. When he got in there, he saw a small figure in a corner. The small thing grabbed a cloth off of a jar with its mouth, then dug its face into the jar. Jacob quickly turned on the lights, and there was Max! “It was you!” Jacob exclaimed. “Jacob,” Susan called from her room. “Are you in the kitchen?” “Uh, yeah, just um, getting a drink.” “Okay, just hurry up and turn off the lights, ok?” “Okay mom.”

It was hard to explain, but when his parents woke up, Jacob told them what had happened. “So, you’re saying that Max, our dog, has been sneaking around the house, eating the cookies?” Susan asked. “Yep. I know it sounds crazy, but it’s true!” “I don’t believe it!” Mathew said. “First, he taught himself how to use the bathroom, and now he knows how to open things!” Max tilted his head to the side, confused why they were talking about him so much, but I guess that’s something he will never know.
